Sprysoft Receives “Star of Texas” Award from Austin ChamberAustin, Texas (Aug. 31, 2006) — Sprysoft Corporation, an Austin area internet marketing and software firm and parent company of Sprydev, was awarded the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce’s “The Star of Texas” small business education award for volunteer work the company did in the wake of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina disaster. Ben Finklea, Sprysoft’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, accepted the award Wednesday evening at the Greater Austin Chamber’s annual awards banquet. “I am deeply appreciative of the Chamber’s recognition of Sprysoft’s efforts and want to extend my thanks to the companies that assisted us in helping the Hurricane Katrina kids last September,” Finklea, a Pflugerville resident, said following the ceremonies. Sprysoft, a Round Rock-based company, marshaled the efforts of two other companies, Inspiration and Sunburst, to provide educational software for use by children housed at the Austin Convention Center in the wake of the hurricane which devastated Louisiana and Mississippi a year ago. Computers for the project were provided by HP and Gateway. In recognizing Sprysoft, the Greater Austin Chamber noted that Sprysoft, begun in 2001, has as one of its corporate goals, maximizing the value of education. “Perhaps Sprysoft’s most notable effort was helping children of Hurricane Katrina who stayed in the Austin Convention Center last September. Thanks to Sprysoft volunteers, hundreds of children who would have sat in the Center with nothing to do were instead using fun, educational software, something that took their mind off the devastation,” the Greater Austin Chamber said in presenting the award to Sprysoft. After hearing about the hundreds of stranded children, Finklea and a group of Sprysoft employees and contractors worked for several days to install computers and educational software programs at the Center so kids could spend their time productively, learning and playing educational games. Finklea also spent time showing adult volunteers how to use the computers and how to teach the children. Finklea, 32, and a graduate of Texas A&M University, launched Sprysoft in 2001 after working for Apple Computer in the mid-1990s, and serving as manager of the University of Texas campus computer retail store from 1999 to 2001. A Pflugerville resident for 5 years, Finklea said Sprysoft’s growth as an Internet marketing and search engine consulting firm is targeted at firms in the Austin-Pflugerville-Round Rock area. “Our corporate objective is to provide companies in this region with the knowledge and services they need to maximize the profitability of their websites and online business. We recently started a new division called SpryDev that takes the online marketing skills and services we’ve learned building Sprysoft.com during the last five years and educates other companies about how to use the search engines to their benefit,” Finklea said. Finklea, who lives with his wife and son in Pflugerville, said his experience with the Hurricane Katrina kids project was highly rewarding. “To watch those children go from being bewildered and afraid to laughing, concentrating on the computers and enjoying themselves was a real joy. I am proud of the work Sprysoft and the other contributing companies did in making this effort and we will continue to seek ways to help our community in the future,” Finklea said. ### For Further Information Contact: |
