Google to Treat Subdomains as Subdirectories

  • Matt Cutts
  • Search Engine Optimization

Google's Matt Cutts announced at Pubcon this week that Google will soon be treating subdomains (www.sprydev.com vs podcast.sprydev.com) as being part of the same website for the search results. Previously, they treated subdomains just like separate websites. If there were 2 or 3 subdomains that showed up for a search results then they would all show up in the Google results. Not anymore! (well...soon)

Tip #3: Don't forget to check the META Tags.

Welcome to Week 2 of Sprydev's crash course on site indexing...

Tip #2: If you have a flash introduction, be sure there is a link that allows you to pass it.

Many webpages have a fancy splash page, but no way to navigate around it. Google cannot read into a flash page, so be sure to include a text link to your website’s second index. Overall this type of intro can add to your site's visual appeal, but don't let it ruin your opportunity to get indexed quickly.

Want to start your own reciprocal link campaign? Here’s where to begin. First, seek out the websites you would like to exchange links with. Be sure to choose partners with valid/complimentary information and products. Do not choose competitors or sites that will diminish your credibility. The goal is to provide your customers with additional, useful information.
